High School basketball season is on the horizon, and the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association released its first rankings of the season, along with players to watch around the state.

Four Lexington County-area teams are ranked across the five classifications in boys and girls basketball, including three top-ranked teams.

Lexington sits atop the 5A boys poll and both Gray Collegiate’s boys and girls teams are No. 1 in their class. The Dutch Fork girls team is ranked ninth in the 5A poll.

Jaxon Prunty from Lexington, Ellis Graham from Gray Collegiate and Ahleria Leaphart from Gilbert were named top-five seniors in their classification.

Three athletes earned the Elite Player honor, which is not separated by class. Gray Collegiate had two players on this list, Tre Maddox and Braylhan Thomas. The other was reigning South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year, Lexington’s Cam Scott.
