Body of Missing Lake Murray Boater Recovered

Posted

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office announced the body of a missing boater on Lake Murray has been recovered.

Edgefield resident Terrance Dealta Butler, 31, had been missing since falling overboard July 31 from a boat near Ivy Link Road in Leesville. Earlier reports indicated that he didn’t come back up after he jumped into the water. He was reported missing by friends and family at 4:20 p.m.  that day.

His body was found by the state Department of Natural Resources on Aug. 10 at 7:45 a.m. “near the tournament ramp in close proximity to Dreher Island State Park in Newberry County,” the coroner’s office posted to Facebook.

The distance between the peninsula that Ivy Link Road runs to the end of and the tournament ramp is about two miles.

No cause of death has been specified. An autopsy is scheduled for Aug. 11, with the results set to be released as soon as they are received, the office posted.

DNR continues to investigate the incident.
