Lexington County 9-1-1 communications seeks re-accreditation, needs public feedback

The public has a chance to provide feedback on Lexington County 9-1-1 communications.
The county is seeking CALEA re-accreditation.
CALEA, according to calea.org, is the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.
“[It] was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement’s major executive associations,” according to the website. “The CALEA Accreditation program seals are reserved for use by those public safety agencies that have demonstrated compliance with CALEA Standards and have been awarded CALEA Accreditation by the Commission.”
This is a four-year process during which the county must submit annual reports and reviews showcasing continual compliance with CALEA standards.
The public can provide feedback through the CALEA online portal, which is easily accessible through lex-co.sc.gov as well as through www.calea.org.
“Access is provided as an opportunity for comments, commendations, and other information regarding the agency’s quality of service or other information relevant to the accreditation process,” the county wrote in a Facebook post.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department website details that the department got its first CALEA accreditation in 1999 and its eighth in 2022.
These standards address nine major law enforcement subjects, according to the department’s website:
1. Role, responsibilities and relationships with other agencies
2. Organization, management and administration
3. Personnel structure
4. Personnel process
5. Operations
6. Operational support
7. Traffic operation
8. Prisoner and court-related activities
9. Auxiliary and technical services
