It was déjà vu with weather affecting high school playoff games again Friday.
For the second straight night, Airport had to push back its Class 4A Lower State game with James Island. It will now take place at 11 a.m. with the winner headed to Hartsville in a winner’s bracket game.
Other postponements included Gray Collegiate at Chesterfield in Class 2A Upper State baseball and Class 5A Lower State softball game between Chapin and Summerville.
Lexington and Gilbert were able to complete their games after lengthy rain delays.
Senior leadership stepped up in a major way for the Lady Wildcats.
All three runs came courtesy of their upperclassmen. Louisville signee catcher Sarah Gordon continued her torrid hitting with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.
It was her 14th home run of the season and fifth of the playoffs.
The offense went silent over the next five innings. Meanwhile, the Lady Warriors managed to pick up a run in the second and fourth innings to tie the game.
In the bottom of the sixth, senior Jessica Senn belted a solo home run over the centerfield wall to put the Lady Wildcats on top. Riley Ford then ended the game with her 12th strikeout.
Lexington will await the winner of Saturday’s game between Summerville and Chapin on Monday. The loser plays host to Wando in an elimination game.
The Lady Indians were held to a season-low in runs and hits as Maddie Johnson struck out seven to lead the Lady Blue Jackets.
Aynor jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the first four innings. Carley Melton put the Lady Indians on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a RBI single and Taylor Dreher hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.
The Lady Blue Jackets stretched their lead with three runs in the top of the seventh, including a two-run double by Kayden Ray.
Gilbert will now travel to Loris Monday for an elimination game. Aynor plays host to Dillon.
