Welcome our military retirees

Lets make them feel right at home here

South Carolina is a great place for military retirees – not just on Memorial Day Monday.
Our state ranked 2nd only to Virginia as military friendliest.
Much of that is due to a healthier economy, low taxes and an affordable cost of living.
Other top military friendly states were Florida, South Dakota, Alaska, Alabama, Maryland, Wyoming and Missouri, according to the personal-finance website WalletHub.
With May as Military Appreciation Month, WalletHub researched the best and worst states for military retirees.
Among the least friendly were New York, Michigan, Washington, Rhode Island, Nevada, Vermont, Oregon and the District of Columbia.
As military veterans retire this year, some will be the last American forces withdrawn from Afghanistan.
They may find it difficult to adjust to civilian life due to covid-19. It killed more Americans than World War II.
Add inflation, business failures, high unemployment, new federal policies and regulations and rising taxes from Washington.
Veterans will face these obstacles if they hope to find jobs or start businesses.
Even without covid-19, military retirement can be difficult.
Many retirees face major struggles with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, disability and homelessness.
These veterans need to consider how state tax policies on military benefits vary and economic opportunities in choosing a state.
While they are here with us, lets thank them for what they do and have done.
