Twelve U.S. citizens, including one person from Lexington County, have been indicted on 12 counts of conspiracy, wire fraud, bank fraud and money laundering for defrauding many victims across the country.

Of the 12 indicted, three of them are from the Midlands. 50-year-old Saluda resident Demani Jawara Bosket, 51-year-old Saluda resident Tanya Lawshan Bosket, and 51-year-old Gaston resident Walter Clayron Ruff Jr. were all implicated in the nationwide scheme.

According to the indictment, the defendants accessed the victims’ computers and were able to monitor their victims’ financial transactions and bank statements.

The defendants then made fake emails from vendors, business partners or other personnel and deposit the money given into bank accounts that they controlled, the press release read.

Each defendant faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and fines of $1 million. The defendants are expected to be arraigned on Feb. 4

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lothrop Morris and T. DeWayne Pearson.
