2 District 1 principals to retire

Sherry P. Cariens, principal of Oak Grove Elementary School, and Marie G. Watson, principal of Red Bank Elementary School, will retire at the end of the school year.

The 2 principals announced their retirement at the Apr. 4 meeting of the Lexington County School District 1 Board of Trustees.

Cariens has more than 40 years in public education, serving as teacher, assistant principal and principal.

She joined Lexington District 1 as a teacher at OGES in 1976 and became principal in 2010.

Watson retires with 30 years of experience after moving to Lexington District 1’s Midway Elementary School in 1991.

She joined Red Bank Elementary as assistant principal in 1999 and became principal there in 2003.
