Three Lexington County teenagers were arrested after being caught with a Molotov cocktail on school grounds.

Dylan Hank Maples, 19, Ted William Miller, 18, and a  third teen, whose name will not be released because he is under the age of 18, were arrested after taking “a sealed Mason jar containing gasoline that featured a T-shirt as a fuse to Pleasant Hill Elementary School Jan. 29,” according to a release from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

“They climbed up on top of the school and threw the device on the parking lot, which caused an explosion,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted.

According to provided arrest warrants, the sealed mason jar was filled with lawn mower gas with a t-shirt as the fuse. Miller admitted under Miranda that he threw the homemade device around 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 29, with Maples on the roof.

According to a provided incident report, all suspects wore dark clothing and a face covering while at the elementary school and left the scene in a white vehicle. Maples verbally admitted that he was the driver of the vehicle, arrest warrants state.

Shrapnel from the device was collected at the school, according to the incident report.

The three teenagers turned themselves in on Monday night, Feb. 6,  after seeing news coverage and a social media post, according to the release. The department began circulating video of the incident, including the Molotov cocktail exploding, over the weekend.

Maples and Miller were arrested and booked into the Lexington County Detention Center, while the minor was released to his parents.
