Some look forward to Valentine's Day. Others dread it. With Feb. 14 quickly approaching, and precious few days left to plan, the Chronicle put together a guide to help residents figure out their Valentine’s strategy, offering ideas for restaurants and gifts along with some more outside-the-box suggestions.

Flowers

One of the most common gifts given for the holiday is roses, red roses to be exact. They aren’t the only flower a loved one can receive on Valentine's, but they are the classic option. Here are three florists in Lexington County that can supply you with the perfect gift:

Lamb’s Wildflowers in Pelion and Kelly and Co. Florist in Lexington offer nice options for a classic dozen adorned with a vase for as little as $70.

Want to up your game a little from previous years? Or want to impress a first-time Valentine? Sightler’s Florist in West Columbia offers an 18-rose bouquet for $150, which includes a vase, red wax flowers and variegated pittosporum.

Looking to all out spoil your significant other with flowers? Choose Three Oak Florists and Interiors in West Columbia, This florist offers an “Explosion of Red,” with 50 red roses, a vase, greenery, and some decorative vegetation for $345.95.

For more options take a look at Pineview Florist, Jarrett’s Jungle in West Columbia, American Floral in Chapin and Irmo, Tim’s Touch in Lexington, and Worthy’s Florist in Batesburg-Leesville.

All florists mentioned offer a variety of sizes, prices, and options.

Restaurants

Another classical option for your Valentine’s Day plans is going out on a dinner date. Here are a few local options to fit a variety of budgets

The Reggae Grill in Cayce has entrees that average $12. The authentic Jamaican food has fed residents and visitors to the city since 2022. According to the restaurant’s website, crowd favorites include the roti, beef patties, red snapper and short rib.

Another option is Alodia’s Cucina Italiana, a popular favorite within the county with locations in Lexington and Irmo. The Italian restaurant uses recipes from its family’s very own cookbook, offering traditional tastes that have been enjoyed for more than 15 years. The entrees cost an average of $26.

If you are looking for something a little more upscale, Terra in West Columbia might just be right for you. Since 2006, the self-proclaimed “neighborhood bistro” has been doing what it can to support local farmers by using as many locally grown ingredients as it can. Entrees there average $37.

Get Creative

Not wanting to go to a restaurant for dinner? Well, there are plenty of options for you to choose from to create memories with your partner. Here are a few ideas

Go on a picnic – Still, want to get out of the house? A picnic could create the perfect date for you. Take this opportunity to make food, order takeout, or get a charcuterie board and find a romantic and secluded spot.

At-home movie night – Gather up all of your favorite snacks and cozy material. A stay-at-home movie night is an ideal option for those who are introverted or who just don’t want to leave the house. Pick something romantic and enjoy.

Do Something New Together – Trying out something new with your partner is always a nice date idea. How about stepping out of your comfort zone with Half Moon Pottery in West Columbia, an by-appointment pottery shop where you and your significant other can make your own memento.
