The state Highway Patrol continues to seek a suspect it says struck and killed a pedestrian on Interstate 26 in Lexington County in what the department is calling a hit and run.

After Fatal Lexington County Hit and Run, Highway Patrol Seeks Suspect; Victim Identified

The state Highway Patrol continues to seek a suspect it says struck and killed a pedestrian on Interstate 26 in Lexington County in what the department is calling a hit and run.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the victim in the July 18 collision as as Sierra Lachelle Parker, a 23-year-old from Columbia.

“An unknown vehicle was traveling west on Interstate 26 near Exit 106,” the Highway Patrol writes in a news release. “The vehicle struck a pedestrian causing fatal injuries and left the scene.”

The mile marker is just west of the interchange with St. Andrews Road in Columbia. 

According to the coroner's office, Parker was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision.

“The make and model of the hit and run vehicle is currently unknown,” the Highway Patrol release states. “The vehicle may have front end damage.”

The department requests that anyone with information about who was responsible for the hit and run to submit anonymous tips to the department (864-241-1000 or 1-800-768-1503), Crime Stoppers at (888-274-6372), through the website 888crimesc.com or the P3 Tips app.

The state Department of Public Safety reports that there were 19 previous road fatalities in Lexington County this year, one of which involved a pedestrian, who was killed when walking in the roadway of Interstate 20 in the Batesburg-Leesville area.

The department lists 545 road fatalities so far this year, with 73 involving pedestrians.

Public Safety reports 57 road fatalities in the county in 2021, including 11 that involved pedestrians.
