Amicks Ferry Rd. school plans move ahead

Posted

Lexington District 5 is moving forward with design and construction contracts for the new elementary school on Amicks Ferry Road in Chapin.

The decision comes after the board approved 2 motions at its Dec. 10 meeting. The motions authorize the district’s superintendent to review both the Design Services contract and Construction Manager at Risk contract for the new school.

Both motions authorized “the Superintendent to confirm acceptability of all contract terms with the District’s counsel.” The motions also would allow the superintendent to “return the matter to the agenda for a special-called meeting for further approval.”

“In consultation with the district’s legal counsel, Superintendent Dr. Christina Melton has determined that executing the contracts presented to and approved by the School Board is in the district’s best interest,” said Board Chairman Robert Gantt.

“It was determined that no special-called meeting is needed or required, and our superintendent will be proceeding to complete the execution of the contract.”
