Attorney General opposes online alcohol sales

Posted

Attorney General Alan Wilson has joined a 46 state coalition calling on Face-book, Craigslist, and eBay to stop illegal alcohol sales.

Wilson noted that under the 21st Amendment states control the sale of alcohol. Unlicensed, unregulated, and untaxed online alcohol sales are illegal.

Some alcohol sold online may be dangerous counterfeits or tainted. Consumers may not know that these black-market products could endanger their health.

The coalition wants Facebook, Craigslist, and eBay to:

• Remove illegal alcohol products on their websites.

• Block and prevent sellers from violating state law by posting alcohol products on their websites.
