This is the end of summer break! I hope all students and teachers revel in their last week of freedom. To all the hardworking teachers, may bouquets of sharpened pencils decorate your desk and students hungry for learning grace your classroom! May all teachers have a wonderful year!

The positions of Mayor and two council seats are up for election in the Town of Ir-mo in November. Filing is August 16 through 30. The filing fee is $35. Applications can be found at the town office. Contact Renee Caviness at 803-781-7050 for more information.

Congratulations to Chapin student Laney Hayes, a Chapin Ruritan Club scholarship recipient. Hayes plans to enter the University of South Carolina in biomedical engineering.

The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism is seeking public input on the draft 2019 Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan.

The SCORP needs public input for outdoor recreation issues of statewide significance and guidance to expand outdoor recreation activities for the state.
