AROUND LEXINGTON COUNTY

What does a sea of purple and orange and of garnet and black mean?

It means the 10th annual Lexington Sertoma Club Clemson-Carolina Big Thursday Celebration! Held last Thursday at the Lexington Municipal Conference Center, many came out to show their colors.

Preceding the catered dinner, guests enjoyed a social hour while bidding at the Silent Auction.

Keynote speakers were Andy Chatham and Scott Enzor of Clemson, and Joe Doyle and Del Wilkes of USC, all players were from the mid-1980s.

The welcome was given by Matthew Quinton club president, and Mayor Steve MacDougall. Pastor Mark Owens delivered the invocation. It was noted by Sertoma member Tommy Harman introduced the Big Thursday celebration 10 years ago.

Among the many there were Ann and Dennis Bull, Bunnie and Don Hagenlocher, Caroline Bryson, Betty and Terry Roof, Bobbie Sue and Tommy Harman, Marlene and Dean Wheeler, Earle Brown, Tripp and Richard Garrick, Dr. Eddie Rogers, Elaine and John Hiers, Diane and George Butler, Jay Martin, Linda and Jim McLeod, Drois Reynolds, Jeff Anderson, Baxter Donaldson, Bob Pauling, Jo and Charlie Mayer, and Ann and Cotton Riddle.

Proceeds benefit the club’s community project, speech and hearing programs.

Always a popular and well-attended event was the Lexington Medical Center Foundation’s Women’s Night Out. Held last Thursday at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, this event supports breast cancer treatment and cure programs.

Following the reception with silent auction and exhibits, a dinner and program were held.

On the program were Emcee Darci Strickland of WLTX News, Beth Sisoty-Smith, MD, Donna Peele, Lou Kennedy, and Barbara Willm, LMC’s vice president of development and community relations.

Barbara directed the fashion show featuring models Beth Addison, Belinda Brown, Teresa Caldwell, Elizabeth Gainey, Audrey Greene, Tami Hersey, Janie Lakin, Natonya Mims, Trima Rabb, and Stacoe Powell Smith.

Speaking also were Keith Hudson and then Erin McCaskill, who introduced the keynote speaker, Arielle Hughes, cancer survivor whose topic was “Live Beyond Better.”

Donna Keisler Hicks reports a fun weekend enjoyed recently by the family of Councilman Bobby Keisler and his wife Rachel.

The family went to River Bottom Farm in Swansea, staying at a cabin and in tents. Hannah planted a magical pumpkin seed and recited a poem. When they returned Saturday morning to see what had grown. They were supposed to “trick or treat” that night, but a storm came rolling in. However, they all enjoyed grilling and cooking breakfast out of doors.

Sheri Kimball reports the Lexington Woman’s Club’s Fall Yard of the Season was awarded to Dennis and Lynn Robinson of 108 Berly St. in Lexington’s historic District.

Lynn, a retired school art teacher, and Dennis decorate their home from the front to the back door for a fanciful “boo-fet.” An owl overlooks the buffet table. There are flying crows and spiderweb-draped furniture. The couple will next decorate for Thanksgiving before creating their Christmas theme.
