The Lexington County Blowfish, Make-A-Wish Columbia and State Credit Union partnered to grant the wish of 12-year-old Brayden Sox.

On July 26, during the Blowfish game against the Macon Bacon, Meadow Glen Middle School student had his journey documented on local news stations the past year, was in attendance.

Sox was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 10. According to his father, Jamie, Sox is set to “knock cancer out of the park” in November 2019.

What was Brayden’s wish? He wanted to go to Atlantis and Make-A-Wish South Carolina made sure it happened for he and his family.

Sox threw out the first pitch to his favorite player and “Mr. Blowfish” Jared Williams of Gilbert to start the festivities at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. He was joined by his family, as well as friends for his sendoff party in the Blowfish Stadium Club.

The Sox family left this past Monday to head down to the Bahamas to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime trip. What is he looking forward to most?

“Well, I saw the huge waterslide on T.V. one time, and I decided that’s where I want to go if I ever got the chance,” Sox told me during the game.

This isn’t Brayden’s first time around the playing field or athletes he looks up to. Brayden has two friends in the WNBA in former University of South Carolina national champions Alisha Gray and A’ja Wilson.

He and his father have also made the trip to Fenway Park in Boston, Mass. To meet Gamecock baseball legend Jackie Bradley Jr.

“He’s really nice,” Sox told me about Bradley Jr. “He’s a really good baseball player, too. I also got to meet Mookie Betts there, too.”

It’s safe to say Brayden has fought everyday while battling leukemia these past two years. Currently, he is in remission, which means the treatments are not as tough as they have been in the past.

It was a special night at Lexington County Baseball Stadium, as the entire county was able to gather and help make a Lexington boy’s dream come true.
