Brewery to hold art competition

Steel Hands Brewing in Cayce announced last week that it is hosting an Artist Competition. Your work could be permanently displayed at the Brewery. The brewery is also giving away prizes.

The Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber Lunch and Learn July 25, included a behind the scenes tour of the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. Richard Skipper, chamber CEO,  reported the tortoises were very friendly and the koalas posed nicely for every picture. The chamber encourages its members to Check out the zoo’s Waterfall Junction from the West Columbia entrance on Botanical Parkway.

The storms that blew through West Columbia and Lexington County last Monday were brief, but there was some damage. Lexington County officials said the severe weather, and its winds and rain, brought down some trees. There was a downed tree in the 100 block of Secret Cove Drive. County officials said no injuries were reported from this incident.

Traffic was delayed in the 3000 block of Augusta Highway in West Columbia July 23 due to an accident involving several vehicles. There were injuries reported. Crews from the West Columbia Police Department, the West Columbia Fire Department and Lexington County Fire Services were on the scene.

The Board of Trustees of Lexington School District Two will hold a special back-to-school meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 2, in the Board Room of the District Education Center, 715 Ninth Street, West Columbia. For more information, contact the Office of the Superintendent at 739-8399.
