Carrying on the crown

Pelion High School senior Whitney Craft was recently crowned homecoming queen.

She received a surprise when she found out both of her grandmothers had been crowned homecoming queens during their senior years at Pelion.

Her grandmother Glenda Lucas Craft was crowed for the class of 1962.

Whitney’s other grandmother Judy Williams Sharpe was crowned for the class of 1965.

“I was actually unaware that either one of my grandmother’s had won Homecoming Queen until the big event was days away. I never got the chance to meet my Granny Glenda, but I have always heard wonderful things about her from my family and the Pelion community.

“Fortunately, I still have my Grandma Judy and have a close relationship with her. It is really awesome that I get to carry on the family tradition as Homecoming Queen.

“It means that I have the great responsibility of representing the beautiful town of Pelion, as my grandmothers did before me,” Whitney said.
