Celebrate (and Survive) the Holidays

‘Tis the season to be jolly, and try to not get physically run down from the crazy holiday schedule.

What have you done for yourself lately? The coming holiday season can be draining, exhausting and entirely consuming. To keep some level of holiday sanity, take some time and treat yourself and do something you enjoy. I have a secret stash of organic dark chocolate I hide from everyone. I get myself a square or two from my hidden chocolate bars when I need some cocoa bean comfort. The Irmo Chapin Recreation centers have an artists club, Palmetto shell club, knitting and crochet club, and pottery classes if your artistic side needs some attention. Saluda Shoals Park’s Holiday Lights on the River will bring you an easy festive family break. The cost is $25 per person, and it starts at the entrance at 6071 St. Andrews Road.

This week’s Christmas project is sure to be a future heirloom. Get an outline of your grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, nieces and nephews’ hands. Transfer the outlines of the handprints in the middle of a fabric tablecloth in a circle. You could do this with a fabric pen or by embroidery. Every year add a circle of hand outlines. After five years, you have the hands of loved ones imprinted on a tablecloth to use at family gatherings.

To all who celebrate Hanukkah, Nov. 28 is the day you light that first candle of the Menorah. Happy Hanukkah to you!

Chapin Chief of Police Seth Zeigler has retired after 25 years of service. He will enjoy some free time with family and go on to the next season in his life. Thank you, Chief Zeigler, for your service.

Old-Timey Christmas tree lighting on Beaufort Street is from 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 11. Santa will be riding through Chapin right before the Christmas tree lighting.

Thanks to the Rotary Sunrise Club of Chapin, they worked hard to pick up the trash on Amick’s Ferry Road. Thank you for helping keep Chapin beautiful.
