This is the month of caffeine awareness, Irish American heritage, celery and peanut month, as well as and women’s history month. Perhaps I will celebrate this month by going out with my friends to the local Irish pub, order coffee, talk about St Patrick and famous women while feasting on celery sticks filled with peanut butter.

Since this is also the month to celebrate National pig day and Multiple Personality Day, me, myself and I can discuss what tastes better, mustard or ketchup-based barbecue. March 15 is the Ides of March as well as “ National Dumbstruck Day” where you can be totally “dumbstruck” over things you see, hear and read.

Irmo is planning an International Arts Day to celebrate the arts and to bring increased tourism to the Irmo area. Dr. Mary Kennerly, president of the Interfaith Partners of SC and Mayor Hardy King, are collaborating with the local schools. The date for this event is April 28, 1-4 pm. If you would like to get involved in planning this event, call Irmo town hall at 803-781-7050

Palmetto Scribe Short Story Contest at the Irmo Library needs entries from grades 11 and 12. There’s a $500 prize. The deadline is March 8. Submit entries to kberry@lex.lib.sc.us or drop off at the Irmo Library reference desk or call 803-798-7880.

Is your daughter interested in scouting? Lake Murray Presbyterian Church’s new troop will learn camping, cooking in the great outdoors, canoeing, fishing, games, First Aid, leadership skills, and friendship with other scouts. For information, email BSAGirlstroop412@gmail.com .

I love yard sales. Since one family’s unwanted items are another’s treasure, Seven Oaks’ yard sale is the place to search for gems at a reasonable price. It is March 9 from 7 to 11 am. For info, call 803-772-3336.

The Irmo Library is celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday March 2, at 10:30 am. If he were still living, he would be 115 years old. His Lorax poem about trees and nature is a good one for Totally Terrific Tree Day at Saluda Shoals, also March 2, 1-3 pm. Adults and children can spend time together exploring the beauty of nature. Call 803-772-1228 for more information

Basic sewing skills are essential. I learned to sew in 5th grade in Girl Scouts. Sewing skills will be the focus of the Adulting 101 class at the Irmo Library March 7, 6:30-7:30 pm. Bring your own needle and thread. Call 803-798-7780 for info.

IThe Chapin Writer’s club meets at the Chapin Library March 4 at 6 pm Call 803-345-5479 for information.
