Chapin High cheerleader named S.C. Cheerleader of the Year

Posted

A varsity cheerleader at Chapin High School has been named the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) Class 5A Division II Cheerleader of the Year.

Senior Emma Smoak first began her journey with Chapin Cheer 13 years ago when she was the team mascot. She said she was “truly humbled and honored” to have received this award.

“This recognition is not just a reflection of my efforts, but also of the talented 23 other athletes and the community that has supported me every step of the way. After six years with Chapin Varsity, I’ve had the privilege of cheering alongside the best of the best,” Smoak said in the press release. “Holding this award, alongside several of my past teammates is a true honor. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to inspire others, just as the past Cheerleaders of the Year have inspired me.”

In addition to serving as the team’s mascot at a young age, Smoak has been part of the varsity cheerleading team for six years and served as team captain this year when Chapin’s cheer team won the Class 5A Division II state championship in November of 2024.

“Emma is a role model for her peers and an outstanding athlete. We know Emma will continue to pursue her life goals through her outstanding leadership and character,” Chapin varsity cheer head coach Vicki Williams said in the press release.
