Add 2 more Lexington County schools to the list of finalists competing at the SC High School League competitive cheer championships set for Dec. 19 at the Florence Civic Center.

Gilbert and Brookland-Cayce joined Class 4A Airport in making the finals after each earned a spot in Class 3A. The 2 schools learned the news after the points from the Midlands/Lower State and Upper State qualifiers held Monday at Lower Richland High School and Thursday at Chesnee High School were combined to determine the 12 finalists.

The Lady Indians placed 9th with a score of 240 points, while the Lady Bearcats claimed the 12th and final qualifier spot with a score of 228.

Belton Honea-Path (284) was the overall winner, followed by Blue Ridge (269), Palmetto (268), Wren (268) and Mid-Carolina (259) to round out the Top 5.

The remaining qualifiers were Chapman (257), Seneca (254), Chesnee (251), Fox Creek (10th - 237) and Daniel (11th - 234).

The Class 5A qualifier is taking place starting Saturdaymorning. Defending state champion Chapin will compete at 12:07 pm, Dutch Fork at 12:21 pm, Lexington at 12:35 pm and River Bluff at 2:14 pm.

The top 12 out of the 29 participants will compete at the state finals. The final results should be posted Saturday at www.schsl.org.
