The S.C. American Baseball Summer League is now in full swing.
Created from American Legion teams who were unable to play this summer following the season’s cancellation by the national ruling board, it consists of 21 senior teams broken up into 3 divisions (Lower State, Midlands and Upper State).
Chapin/Newberry, Lexington Post 7 and West Columbia Post 79 will all compete in the Midlands division. North Augusta, Edgefield and Greenwood round out the division vying for 4 playoff spots for an opportunity to become 2 of 6 finalists for the double-elimination state championship tournament.
With the Columbia Firefies’ season still postponed, the S.C. American Baseball Summer League will fill the void with a 12-game Segra Series at the ballpark. It kicks off with a doubleheader starting Thursday at 3 pm with a contest between the Sumter Flyers and Lexington Post 7 Junior Navy team.
The 2nd contest will feature the Chapin/Newberry senior team against Lexington Post 7 at 6:05 pm.
The 2 teams will meet again in Columbia on July 16, with Lexington playing there 2 days earlier on July 14 against Camden Post 17. Chapin/Newberry will face Camden July 30 at Segra Park. Tickets for all the games are $6 at the gate.
