It’s time to start being more concerned with getting healthy than keeping up some sort of appearance.

That’s why Emmaus Church stepped out in faith this year to partner with The Courage Center in Lexington.

This recovery-focused organization helps individuals struggling with substance misuse or substance use disorder.

Our small part of South Carolina has one of the highest rates of opioid overdose. And TCC’s Courage Over Stigma campaign gives us the courage to be honest about our issues and challenges while advocating for recovery and resources in the Lexington area.

Shame and stigma only further isolate people and it takes a caring and supportive community to make a difference in someone’s life.

The recovery community models so well what the rest of us ought to be doing — being honest with ourselves and our community, and living intentionally toward health and wholeness.

Our church community is committed to living out the way of Jesus by creating a space where we can ask questions and wrestle with the big challenges in life, connect in deep and meaningful relationships, and bring more good into the world.

Addiction has touched the lives of many members of our congregation.

Emmaus knows we have a responsibility to protect our community by decreasing access to unused prescription medications through the use of Deterra Drug Deactivation System Pouches.

These pouches contain a special environmentally friendly carbon compound to deactivate unused, expired, or unwanted medications at home.

Each of our members has access to these products and other resources to help raise awareness about the stigma of substance use and end accidental overdoses.
