Circa Barbershop among newest downtown Lexington businesses

Posted

Downtown Lexington has been getting a refresh over the past couple of years.

From new dining spots, boutiques and the ever-buzzing popularity at the Icehouse Amphitheater, it’s clear that Lexington is striving to be the place to be.

Downtown’s newest addition aims to leave Lexington gentlemen looking as fresh as ever. Circa Barbershop made its debut on Oct. 1, 2024, and has become a hit among locals.

Nestled in the former basement of the men’s outfitter Craig Reagin, the location of the new barbershop provides convenience to those looking for a unique experience and a fresh cut.

The building that houses Craig Reagin and Circa Barbershop is among downtown’s oldest historic buildings. The 2,285-square-foot basement renovation was completed by Chapin Commercial Construction.

“Renovating a historic building like this presents unique challenges, but it’s those challenges that make the process very fulfilling. We’re proud to play a role in preserving the history of this area while helping local businesses thrive,” Chapin Commercial President and Founder Chad Lindler said.

The Circa Barbershop franchise aims to offer clients more of an experience than just a haircut. The minimalist aesthetic and modern feel of the business put a different twist on the typical barbershop.

Owned and operated by local barbers, the shop strives to build relationships with the men who sit in their chairs.

“We really focus on building relationships and doing life with our clients, and I think that really sets Circa apart,” Lexington Circa owner Halie Holland said. “We strive to offer a personalized experience by learning our clients’ hair type and style. Consistent quality is our specialty.”

Holland has been a barber with Circa for five years and is passionate about the brand and clientele.

“Our clients aren’t just clients; they become friends and a part of our community,” she said. “We get to share in life’s big moments—from marriages to new babies and everything in between. Whether you’re celebrating or going through a tough time, our shop is a safe space where the chair becomes more than just a place for a haircut—it’s ‘hairapy,’ connection and a little light in people’s lives.”

The Circa Barbershop franchise was founded in 2014 by D. R. Granger.

“We began as a one-chair shop in the dressing room of a men’s clothing store called Circa Mercantile Company. We value simplicity, and from the very start, we’ve focused on the essentials: exceptional customer service, quality haircuts and precise beard trims,” according to the Circa Barbershop website.

Circa Barbershop has been a local favorite, with multiple Midlands locations including on Main Street in downtown Columbia and Forest Drive in Forest Acres.

With the growing popularity of downtown Lexington, Holland saw an opportunity to provide Circa Barbershop’s services to the community.

“Lexington is a wonderful town. It has changed so much over the past 10 years,” she told rhe Chronicle. “It is unique in the way that Lexington still maintains a small-town feel while it grows rapidly.”

The Lexington Circa Barbershop is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 101B E. Main St.

“We look forward to serving clients old and new,” Holland said. “We are excited to be a part of the community and to see Lexington continue to grow around us.”
