AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

Congratulations to West Columbia Fire Department members Lieutenant Tiffany Bowen, Engineer Dave Wakeman, Lieutenant Jimmy Patrick, and Engineer Dylan Reed. They were recognized at Lexington County’s “Survivors Breakfast” on Dec. 3.

These individuals saved a life in the performance of their duties during the course of one of their shifts in 2017. The person they helped save, was at the breakfast to present the award to the winner.

The Cayce Arts Guild hosted an opening event Dec. 7 as the start of the inaugural Holiday Market. The Holiday Market will be held until Dec. 15 at 1803 State Street.

Portions of the West Columbia River-walk Park were closed last week until further notice due to flooding.

The area from the Gervais Street Bridge to the Moffatt Street entrance was closed. Once the flood waters subside, the city will announce the River-walk’s  reopening.

The Cities of Cayce and West Columbia have issued a reminder. If you are frying a turkey for Christmas season, don’t just throw away the used or dump it down your drain. That cooking oil can actually be recycled as biofuel by Green Energy Biofuel. Plus, putting concentrated fat down your sink can clog the pipes, costing you money to get them fixed!

So, after you’ve enjoyed your perfectly fried turkey, bring that extra cooking oil to the Lexington County Collection and Recycling Centers.
