Computer Science Education Week returned to Lake Murray Elementary the first week of December with activities for all grade levels. Kindergarten through fifth grade participated in Hour of Code during their computer lab block, and teachers discussed the importance of computer science in today’s world. Students brainstormed about ways computer science affects their everyday life, such as cell phones, microwaves and traffic lights. On December 5, students excitedly began coding and creating games based on old favorites such as Star Wars, Mine-craft, Frozen, Scratch and, of course, Angry Birds. Third- through fifth-graders enjoyed a new activity “Dance Party” that teaches coding concepts to choreograph a dance party. Students watched videos featuring musicians and a dancer/ software developer who has fused both dance and technology.
