County officer earns national excellence

Posted

Lexington County Detention Center’s top officer is now nationally certified.

Maj. Kevin Jones successfully completed the National Institute of Corrections’ Executive Excellence training program.

Jones oversees the daily operations of the Lexington County Detention Center for Sheriff Jay Koon.

“Kevin is a valuable leader in the detention center and a trusted member of our community,” Koon said.

“To fulfill the requirements of this selective program, Kevin had to demonstrate his knowledge in the field of corrections and his capabilities as a jail administrator.”

Koon said Jones’ training provides him with the capabilities, knowledge and skills needed to lead correctional organizations, now and in the future.

The Executive Excellence training program is conducted in three phases, including a two-week intensive residential session at the National Corrections Academy, according to the National Institute of Corrections.
