Aging Batesburg-Leesville High School’s problems have not gone away. District 3 administrators and trustees have not made definite plans for a bond referendum now, spokesperson Mackenzie Taylor said. But the needs discussed during the district’s 2018 bond referendum are still present and growing. “Conversations are being had about how to proceed.” At a recent board meeting, interim Supt. Stephen Hefner suggested the district go back to the voters again and ask them to approve the $90 million bond this time. Voters turned it down in November 2018. Backers want the district to borrow up to $90 million to renovate B-L Primary School and build a new B-L High School. The renovations would correct safety, student growth and aging building issues, supporters say.
