How are you coping with staying at home and social distancing?

A quote heard this week was, “I feel like I am 16 again. Gas is cheap and I am grounded.” Another quote was, “With hair salons closed, the real hair color will emerge.” We will try to find a little humor and good in the times we are experiencing.

I can hear the hum of neighbors’ lawn mowers. The cleanest yards are kept by residents now “staying at home.”

Reece and Hampton Caughman publicly thank Lexington police PFC Kimberly Honeycutt for rescuing their pet pig Sausage last week. After escaping from his home, Sausage was captured safely on busy North Lake Drive by Honeycutt and several concerned citizens. Alas Sausage was not meant for city life and has found a nice home in the country.

The boys will be able to visit Sausage so this story has a “pigture” perfect ending.

Museum Director JR Fennell reports of their recent gala “Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Lexington County Museum” raised more than $19,000. JR thanked all who attended, volunteers, sponsors and those who donated to the silent auction.

Gala attendees were treated to delicious food from Scott Hall Catering and were able to dance to the music of the Great Society Band. Attendees also heard about progress the museum has made from JR and former director Horace Harmon.

Dan Koon, the new President of the Friends of the Lexington County Museum, has been a devoted member, volunteering at events and spreading word about the museum. In some ways, his involvement with the museum was inevitable. He has deep Dutch Fork roots. His family settled in the area in the 1700s. He grew up in Irmo near the Lake Murray Dam. He graduated from Irmo High and lives on family property with his wife Jane and his 2 children who attend Clemson University.

First place winner of the Decorated Mailbox Contest last week in Golden Hills was the one of Tim and Jane Ivey. They received a gift certificate to Marco’s Pizza.

Remember to support your local restaurants that are suffering a financial loss in the current crisis. Most are offering curbside service, and some with discounts. Please order dinner to help them survive.

We all are aware this is Holy Week and Easter. This year will be different. There will be no filled churches with worshipers, Easter lilies in abundance and triumphant music. But we must celebrate the Resurrection. Most churches send services by technology so we may observe this most Holy Day with our electronics and phones. Some churches even offer drive-by communion.

A Saluda church’s pastor preaches with a microphone from the back of a truck to his congregation in their cars in the parking area. He says, “When you feel like saying “Amen Brother”, just blow your horn!”
