What is compelling writing?

It’s writing that attracts, inspires and persuades readers.

It is colorful. It makes your readers see what you see.

It is forceful and filled with meaning. It is simple and straight forward.

It tells it like it is.

We have a growing problem in our country. Despite the best public and private school systems in the world, many of our graduates can’t think or write clearly and understandably.

After graduation, many of them may not write anything longer than a grocery list or a short letter to their mothers.

In 40 years of coaching and teaching writers at the professional and college level, many editors and educators have complained to me that even college graduates can’t seem write to clearly and compellingly.

Many of us need to break through a clutter of words in print, on the air, on billboards and everywhere we turn.

Clear thinking leads to clear writing and vice versa. It’s what all of us need to learn how to do.

A new book, The Art of Compelling Writing, aims to help you do it.

The book is fun and easy to read. I can make that claim because I wrote it.

Included in the book are examples from writers who influenced me. I hope they influence you, too.

The book is designed to help you find the right words and use them as the world’s best writers do.

A digital copy of The Art of Compelling Writing is available at Amazon.com for $9.99

Chronicle readers can have it for $4.99 by writing me at JerryBellune@yahoo.com
