AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

Brookland-Cayce High School was scheduled to induct its newest Hall of Fame members at a gala Feb. 6. But, because of severe weather, the ceremony was postponed. Martha Herchak and Deputy Craig Stirewalt will be honored when the gala is rescheduled.

It was a traffic nightmare. The West Columbia Police Department alerted motorists Feb. 5 to avoid the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and I-26. There was an overturned vehicle on Sunset Boulevard. All west bound lanes were blocked at 9:30 am. Traffic was backed up to the Food Lion to the east of the incident. Several emergency vehicles, police, fire and EMS were on the scene.

SC State Troopers were in pursuit of the vehicle that overturned when the driver being chased crashed it. The driver then jumped from the SUV and ran away.

West Columbia Police Department officers were called along with Lexington County deputies to search for the man who ran. He was not caught.
