Finally, Lexington County will have its own homegrown readers’ choice contest. This week, the Chronicle starts its inaugural Our County’s Best poll, which will allow you to select your favorites in more than 300 categories — all of them covering different facets of Lexington County.
County residents have seen reader contests coming across the river from Richland County, including but not focusing on Lexington County. As it is with the Chronicle each week, our contest is devoted entirely to our county. It will recognize local residents’ preferences and recommendations for the best Lexington County has to offer — Cayce to Batesburg-Leesville, Chapin to Swansea, and around and in between.
Starting Feb. 17 and ending March 17, head to lexingtonchronicle.com/ourcountysbest and register with your email and birthday, then nominate your favorites in categories that touch on businesses, restaurants, service providers, educators, wellness, shopping, commerce and more. There’s even a special category that’s all about Lake Murray.
Readers can log on every day to speak up for existing or new nominees. Participation is limited to once per day per electronic device, so nominate with your home computer, your phone and at work.
After March 20, we’ll crunch the numbers, and announce finalists for each category. That’s when the voting phase begins, and you get to cast ballots lending your support to your favorites.
Then, in May, a special Lexington County Chronicle publication will announce the top winners in each category. We’re planning a special event to recognize the winners, and you will soon see the winning plaques throughout our county being proudly displayed by the winners.
It’s high time Lexington County had its own readers’ choice contest.
You live in Lexington County — your news and your “best of” contest should, too.
And now it does.
