Posted

Gilbert Ruritan members held their annual Christmas dinner last week at the Country Club of Lexington. Special entertainment was provided by Mark Forrester, Brenda Burkett and Todd Long. Rev. Mary Anderson from Wittenberg Lutheran Church shared a Christmas message. Sheila and Bobby Gable were recognized with a plaque by the Gilbert Ruritans for their Christmas House fundraising tour. With the hard work and help of the Gables, $900 dollars was raised for Gilbert Ruritan Club community projects.

New Gilbert Ruritan officers were installed by Ruritan National Director Donna Poulton. New Gilbert Ruritan officers are: Todd Long, president; Brenda Burkett, vice president; David Keisler, secretary; Lisa Keisler, treasurer. The Gilbert Ruritans are part of the Ruritans, a national organization dedicated to improving communities and building a better America.

Imagine Santa Claus coming down with the measles just days before Christmas. No problem because Holly the Elf jumps in to save the day. With a cast of characters, laughs and a happy ending children will learn an important lesson from this holiday video. “Christmas the Measles and Me” is performed by Porkchop Productions. This is a free video on the Gilbert-Summit Branch Library Facebook page and can be viewed any time you wish. The library has several Christmas books and DVDs children can enjoy during their vacation break.

Hope Whittle Binkley wants to thank the community for helping fill the Blessing Boxes with food donations and some toys for Christmas. Each month PX-7 Performance Exercise fills the boxes to help local families who need help. This year many needy families have been blessed by others. The Gilbert Blessing boxes are located at Beulah United Methodist Church and near the Gilbert-Summit IGA. Binkley says no donation Is too small.

Wayne and I hope you have a happy and prosperous 2022.
