This is the week for hearts, red roses and boxes of chocolates. Mike Mogan of Kitty’s Hallmark says it is his busiest card day. Many reach out to their special ones in some way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Annie Mack, Director at Lexington’s Senior Center says they will host a party at 10:30 am Friday and even crown a Valentine queen and king! Seniors exchange Valentines with any special friends. It is a day to remember!

You might like to “catch” this movie on Valentine’s Day. Second Wave Coffee and Books at 529 S. Lake Drive, Lexington, is offering a free showing of “The Princess Bride” on Feb 14 at 7 pm. Food and beverages are available for purchase, so come on out and bring your loved one and enjoy this movie that’s both a comedy and drama.

Thanks to Anne Bull, who reports that Cancer of Many Colors hosted its Fashion for Fighters Runway Show Friday. The event raised money for local cancer patients struggling to pay for their basic living expenses while going through treatments.

The Fashion for Fighters Runway Show was started by Paulette Criscone. She said the organization got started because of her family’s journey with the disease. Five different types of cancer were diagnosed within her immediate family. She has lost two brothers and father to cancer.

Mt. Horeb hosted “Night to Shine” Friday for the Lexington area. This is an unforgettable prom night experience for people with special needs, ages 14 and older. It is sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation with additional support from local sponsors. 550 volunteers made the evening special for 250 honored attendees. Attendees were given the royal treatment with a corsage or boutonniere, crown or tiara, photo memento, paparazzi welcome, red carpet walk, dinner and dancing. Night to Shine has become a worldwide event involving 72 churches, 1 million attendees, and 2 million volunteers in 25 countries.

The Lexington County Public Library hosted its monthly tea time Sunday afternoon. The theme was Tea in the Victorian Era. In addition to English teas, decadent desserts were served, There was a brief presentation of female writers during the Victorian era. Some of the authors highlighted were Mark Shelley, Ann Radcliff, Jane Austen, Dorothy Wordsworth, and Phillis Wheatley. The next tea will be March 8 at 2:30 pm with an Irish Tea Party theme. A presentation of Irish landmarks, teas and foods will be highlighted. The public is invited.

Don’t miss these events. Lexington County Museum Director J.R. Fennell says the museum is having a birthday, so this year’s Friends of the Lexington Museum gala will celebrate the 50th anniversary at the annual fundraiser. The Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center, in celebration of its 25th anniversary will sponsor Viva Las Vegas, 7 pm, February 22, at Central Energy, 2030 Gregg St., Columbia. It will be a night of cirque-style entertainment and live music by the Going Commando Bank. Beverages and heavy hors d’oeuvres will be available, plus silent and live auctions.
