Gray Collegiate Academy, located in West Columbia, received several awards at the Charter Institute at Erskine’s 2024 Academic Showcase, highlighting its commitment to academic excellence.
Currently serving 869 students in grades six through 12, Gray Collegiate strives to offer a challenging educational environment where high academic standards are the norm.
Students not only graduate with a high school diploma but also have the opportunity to earn up to 60 transferable college credit hours. Throughout their time at Gray, students engage in skill development, embrace leadership opportunities through service learning and athletics and develop career-awareness skills.
The academy has earned both its high school and middle school the Schools of Excellence Award. The high school also achieved the Platinum Award and received an excellent rating on the S.C. School Report Card.
In a recent press release, Gray Collegiate Academy, alongside Brashier Middle College Charter High School, achieved 100% graduation rate, a distinction shared with only three other charter schools and nine schools statewide.
In terms of academic performance, Gray Collegiate not only outperformed local districts but also ranked among the top schools in South Carolina for their academic excellence, ranking in the top 25% in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics.
S.C. School Report Card reports that 93.4% of Gray Collegiate high school students scored a C or higher in the English 2 end-of-course assessment, while 65.1% was the average in local districts.
In Algebra 1, 68.2% of Gray Collegiate students scored a C or higher, while 35.4% of students in other school districts scored a C.
The Gray Collegiate middle school also excelled, with 78.6% of students meeting or exceeding grade-level expectations in the SC Ready ELA assessment, while only 52.5% of students in other districts met or exceeded grade level expectations.
In the S.C. Ready math assessment, 59% of Gray Collegiate students met or exceeded grade level expectations, compared to 29.3% in local districts.
Gray Collegiate Academy continues to strive to maintain and provide a nurturing and challenging environment for all its students, preparing them for the future.
