Gray Collegiate sets Cayce Roundball Classic records in rout of Spartanburg

It was a dominating first impression left by top-ranked Gray Collegiate Dec. 21 at Brookland-Cayce High School.

The defending Class 2A champions more than just routed Spartanburg 86-32 in their first-ever appearance in the tournament. The War Eagles set a Classic record for the most points scored, margin of victory and lowest points allowed in one game.

Montraivis White scored all 14 of his points in the first half. He had outscored the entire Vikings’ team as Gray Collegiate took a 51-9 halftime lead.

Spartanburg was held to 4-19 shooting in the first half and managed only five field goal the rest of the game. Meanwhile, Treyvon Maddox opened the second half with seven straight points as he and L.J. Britt each finished with 12 points.

Ellis Graham rounded out the list of double-figure scorers for Gray Collegiate with 10. Logan Norton had 10 points for the Vikings, who will face Westwood in a consolation game.

As for the War Eagles, they will meet Lancaster in an American Bracket semifinal.

American Bracket

Lancaster 52, Westwood 46

Jordan Watford scored 15 points as the Bruins rallied from a four-point halftime deficit to advance to the American Bracket semifinals.
They will face Gray Collegiate at 8:30 p.m.
Arden Conyers had a game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Redhawks. They will play Spartanburg at 2:30 p.m. in the consolation game.

Westside (Ga.) 80, T.L. Hanna 47

Khalon Hudson scored 20 points and Aumauri Tillman, who had 10 rebounds, and DeMarco Middleton each finished with 14 points to lead the Patriots into the American Bracket semifinals.
They will face Ridge View in the 7 p.m. semifinal on Dec. 22
Adrius Armstrong scored 15 points and Jaquarious Patterson had 10 for the Yellowjackets. They will face Fort Dorchester in the 1 p.m. consolation game.

Ridge View 64, Fort Dorchester 48

Blazers’ head coach Josh Staley is the unofficial “king” of Bearcat Arena.

Going back to his days at A.C. Flora, he has never lost at the Brookland-Cayce High School gymnasium since its construction.

The latest victory in a rematch of last year’s Class 5A final improved Staley to 7-0 at the Classic.

Reggie Mack led Ridge View with 13 points and Jayden Pretty had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Staley is one win away from a fourth Classic final appearance. Ridge View faces Westside (Ga.) at 7 p.m.

National Bracket


Hiram (Ga.) 67, Dutch Fork 49


Chase Tyler scored 15 points and Sekal Lockhart and Jay Boyd Jr. each had 11 points to lead the Hornets into the National Bracket semifinals.
They will face fellow Georgia school Cross Creek at 4 p.m. on Dec. 22.
Jayden Toney had 10 points for the Silver Foxes, who face A.C. Flora at 11:30 a.m. in a consolation game.

J.F. Byrnes 54, Hartsville 40


Kobe Staggs scored 19 points and Kayzzin McDowell had 13 to lead the Rebels into the semifinals.
They will face North Augusta at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 22.
Kameron Foman had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Foxes., who will face Dreher at 10 a.m. in the consolation game.

Despite Jaden Tucker’s 20 points, the Lady Gators lost their opening game at the Y.C. Winborn Holiday Tournament in Rock Hill.

They next face Boiling Springs at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 22.

River Bluff 48, Airport 41 

Mary Carson Eick had 18 points to help the Lady Gators even their record to 5-5 on the season. They started play at the Y.C. Winborn Holiday Tournament in Rock Hill on Dec. 22.

Boys Basketball

Airport 60, River Bluff 51 

Jamal McBride scored 26 points and Elias Guest-McCray had 17 to lead the Eagles.

Luke Chapman had a nice game for the Gators, scoring 14 points and snagging 8 rebounds.

River Bluff will serve as host site for the Chick-Fil-A Classic starting Dec. 27. It opens play against Wheeler (Ga.) at 8:40 p.m. For information about the tournament, go to chick-fil-aclassic.com.
