Habitat for Humanity needs your help

Habitat for Humanity Midlands does a great job in Lexington County.

They put families in affordable homes and upgrade neighborhoods, thanks to business, individual and organizations’ generosity.

Usually in November, they have a big gala where they recognize people who have contributed and new homeowners. The 2019 gala had retired NFL star Joe Theisman as the speaker. It generated more than $500,000 for future projects. At the gala last year I was impressed by the excitement and commitment to Habitat.

Unfortunately, the 2020 Gala had to be cancelled due to covid-19. That may mean a shortfall of donations and limit the number of deserving people who get homes. But the Habitat staff has a never give up attitude and have regrouped with a “Home for the Holidays” fundraising campaign.

They are looking for help from the community to make up any shortfall of funds by starting a Go Fund Me account in hope of raising $102,000.

Spokesperson for Habitat, Mary Louise Resch, told the Chronicle that the need for homes grows every year.

She is optimistic that kind hearts in Lexington County will help. If our readers want to donate, go to midlandshabitat.org on the web or call 803-252-3570.
