Happy New Year?

Posted

Time marches on totally oblivious to a calendar number.

In nature, the only thing that happens from Dec. 31 to Jan. 1 is one more rotation of the earth.

But what an awesome event that is!

It’s an astronomical phenomenon that we very much take for granted.

The creation of a new day is something to celebrate … every day!

Our monthly and yearly lives have been organized around the Gregorian calendar since 1582.

So psychologically, we put 2021 in the history file and look hopefully for good things to happen in 2022.

As I am pondering 2022, the words to a song I wrote in 2002 come to mind.

It was written based on a poem given to me by a Lexington woman whose infant grandson died un expectedly.

When tragedies strike for which there is no explanation we must exercise our faith in God.

The song is called “God’s Own Way”:

“God’s own time, God’s own way.

Every minute, every day. Seasons come and seasons go. We learn, but sometimes we cannot know.

And that is why we trust each day to God’s own time and God’s own way.”

No doubt in 2022 there will be some tragedies either in your life or in the lives of people you know.

Some of those events will be senseless and hard to accept.

But there will also be some wonderful blessings that you won’t be able to explain.

Some of you may even experience what you can only call a miracle.

When we say, “Happy New Year,” are we just voicing a hope for temporary gladness?

We are facing serious issues in the world that could have tragic consequences for how we and our children will live.

I want more than a happy new year.

We need a miraculous new year!

Pray for a year of wrongs to be made right.

Pray for the hearts and souls to get right with God!
