Helene leaves some Lexington County areas with debris, no power

Hurricane Helene brought strong winds and rain to the Lexington County area in the early morning hours of Sept. 27.

Power outages have been reported across the county. Many traffic lights are out, and Mid Carolina Electric Cooperative reports over 56,000 outages as of 11 a.m. Friday morning.

Lake Murray and area ponds are experiencing muddy and heightened water levels.

The Lexington County Chronicle is without power.

The Lexington County Sherriff’s Department posted the following: “Our focus at this time is working to identify obstructions and clear them on main highways and primary roads so traffic flow can resume. Clearing obstructions on secondary and side roads will follow as our response continues.”

"TRAFFIC ALERT - DOWNED TREES/POWER LINES

The 11:30 a.m. update for closed streets with downed trees and/or power lines.

Mineral Springs Road - From US-378 to Traffic Circle
South Lake Drive/SC-6 - Between Roberts Street and Third Avenue
Elm Street - Between Roberts Street and Third Street
South Church Street - Between Elm Street and Roberts Street
Corley Street at Dreher Street
Golden Hills Neighborhood Entrance - Access from Morgan Drive.

The Town of Lexington, SC Parks Department is working to reopen these streets as quickly as possible.  Dominion Energy is clearing downed power lines in several areas and getting power up again.
