Hello Again, Thanksgiving Day

Posted

I love Thanksgiving!

It’s the chance to be with family and friends and to put aside the struggles of life for a day.

And we focus on giving thanks to God for the blessings of life.

It’s a time to raise an Ebenezer — not anything to do with Scrooge!

“Eben” is the Hebrew word for stone, and “ezer” is the Hebrew word for help.

A “stone of help” is a memorial found in 1 Samuel 7:12.

The children of Israel stopped and acknowledged that only by God’s help had they come this far in the battles and struggles they had faced.

“Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen / He named it Ebenezer, saying, ‘Thus far the LORD has helped us.’”

Let’s make a conscious effort to not just eat turkey and watch football, but take time in the day to express our thankfulness to God.

In 1990 I wrote a song that I sing every year.

I made a video of it which I posted on YouTube.

To my utter amazement, it now has more than 20,000 views.

Hello Again, Thanksgiving Day

Hello again Thanksgiving Day, it’s been another year

Seems like only yesterday when all of us were here

It’s easy to feel thankful for blessings come my way

But Lord it’s been a painful year and yet I still can say:

Thank You, Thank You,

Lord, I’ve come to thank You!

How could I believe and not say, “Thank You?”

For all You’ve done for me

And those things I just can’t see,

On this Thanksgiving Day, Lord I thank You

At times I’ve been ungrateful — Much to my regret

But when I think of Jesus Christ Who died to pay my debt

I realize Your love for me is more than I can see,

And that You’ll do what’s best for me if I will just believe

And if the way is clear, we’ll come again next year

To sing this song until we reach the land that knows no tears
