Host an exchange student

This spring, our family will host an exchange student from Germany for a month. In an exchange by the Friendship Connection organization, our daughter will then visit them in Germany next summer. They are looking for more host families. You do not have to speak German or have a student taking a German language course. The students are paired with a local student based on age, interests and hobbies whenever possible. If you’re interested, visit www.friendshipconnection.org and the “More Host Families Needed” link under “Students.” You can browse through the list of students still in need of a host family and contact the organization to offer hosting.

Support your White Knoll Timber-wolves varsity basketball teams. You’ll have 2 chances to see them play this week. They will be in action Friday night with a home court match-up against cross-town rival Lexington. The girls’ game tips off at 6 and the boys at 7:30. Tuesday, they’ll both travel to Chapin to take on the Eagles, with tipoffs at 6 and 7:30.

Feb 3rd is not only Super Bowl Sunday, it’s “Souper Bowl Sunday,” where local churches collect canned goods that are passed along to local charities and food banks. If your house of worship is participating, don’t forget to bring a few cans with you to church on Sunday before that other Super Bowl.

Happy birthday this week to Allison Thompson, Larry Keisler, Frances Jenkins, Rev. Linda Dunn, and Bruce Brown.
