Chronicle Country players and teams received more honors on the eve of the first-round S.C. High School League basketball playoff games.
The final S.C. Basketball Coaches Association rankings released in the morning on Feb. 14 saw defending Class 2A champion Gray Collegiate go start to finish as the classification’s top-ranked team. The Lady War Eagles also maintained their number-two position throughout the regular-season.
Both Lexington teams finished ranked third in Class 5A, while the Irmo boys placed fifth in the final Class 4A poll.
Later in the day, the SCBCA bestowed top individual honors to two Chronicle Country Region Players of the Year. Irmo center Brandon Crawford was named the Class 4A Player of the Year and Gray Collegiate guard Montraivis White earned the same honor in Class 2A.
White is the War Eagles' fifth recipient of the award, joining Jalek Felton, Juwan Gary, Tommy Bruner and Latavian Lawerence.
Five local players were also named to the All-State teams. Co-Region Girls 4-5A Players of the Year Lindsay Garner of Lexington and Hillary Offing of Dutch Fork Region 4-5A Boys Player of the Year Cam Scott and Lexington teammate Jaxon Prunty in Class 5A and Avantae Parker of Gray Collegiate in Class 2A.
