Did you know napping is heart-healthy? A daytime nap-once or twice a week could benefit your heart. You have a 48% lower risk of suffering from a heart attack, stroke or heart failure. Daytime naps release stress from insufficient sleep. The National Sleep Foundation says 20 minutes is all you need. It’s best to do it before 2-3 pm. This improves alertness, enhanced performance and mood. If you nap for an hour or longer you risk falling into a deep stage of sleep. This may lead to sleep inertia. Sleep inertia is the feeling of grogginess and disorientation. Taking a nap later in the day can effect your sleeping patterns at nighttime. Simply put, go ahead and take that nap. It may help with mental and physical stamina, and it’s heart healthy.
