Jeffrey C. Patterson, Sr.

Jeffrey C. Patterson, Sr., 63, was born March 16, 1959 in Columbia, S.C., and passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022. He was the son of Leland and Virginia Heaton Patterson.

Born the sixth of the Patterson clan, he was an Army brat living everywhere from Columbia to Walhalla, S.C., to Aberdeen, M.D. Then moving all the way to three different cities in France and on to Manheim, Germany, coming back to the states and later lived in Irmo and finally graduating high school in Gilbert, SC. He loved sports and had a distinguished high school football, baseball, basketball and track career.

Shortly after high school, he met the love of his life, Abbigale Williamson, and they were married in 1978 and had three boys. He began delivering parts for SCDOT in 1978 and worked his way up to Procurement Officer by 1998. He later worked for State Procurement. There he served as President of SCAGPO in 2003. In 2004, he joined ITMO and later became the Purchasing Coordinator for Lexington School District 5. Finally, in 2016 he retired from the University of South Carolina as Program Coordinator. He loved Clemson Tiger football and coached many football and basketball teams over the years. He loved helping others and serving his church and community. Of all his accomplishments, he would say these things pale in comparison to the love his savior Jesus Christ had upon him when he became a child of God.

He is survived by his wife, Abbigale Patterson; sons, Clay (Jessie), Bryan (Romona), Jeremy (Heather); and grandchildren, Sofia, Lachlan, Zelda, with little Calum on the way; sisters, Connie Bolton (Ed), Patricia, Anita Duque (Carlos), Phyllis Hughes. Preceded in death by his parents, LC and Virginia Patterson; sister, Bernice; and brothers, Ricky and Michael.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Red Bank Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Red Bank Baptist Church for Missions and/or Upward Basketball, 1357 S. Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29073 or on their website at redbankchurch.org.
