At Lexington One’s board meeting, several schools, staff and students were celebrated for their outstanding achievements, and the Ongoing Assessment Project was discussed.

Students from both Lexington High School and River Bluff High School were honored as National Merit Scholarship semifinalists. These students qualify for the scholarship by achieving high scores on the PSAT.

Emma Jackson and Jaycob Koval from Pelion High School placed first in the unified disc golf at the 2024 South Carolina Special Olympics Fall State Games.

The board also recognized 33 individuals who were named Lexington One Support Staff of the Year.

River Bluff High was named an Advanced Placement Honor Roll School and Beechwood Middle School and Midway Elementary School were named one of America’s Healthiest Schools.

Deerfield Elementary, Gilbert Elementary, Gilbert High, Rocky Creek Elementary and White Knoll High have been recognized as Schools on the Move.

Superintendent Gerrita Postlewait provided her report.

The oath of office for new board members Mackenzie Flashnick and Nicholas Pizzuti, along with incumbents Kathy Henson and Mike Anderson, will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 3.

Postlewait also discussed positions for behavioral support staff, including a general education behavior support assistant and a counselor in achievement through learning and support.

These two roles are critical to the success of students in the ATLAS program, which serves PreK-5 students with challenging behaviors that affect their ability to succeed in a traditional school setting.

Board members participated in a data dive, where they met with the district principals to review data and revise improvement plans.

Centerville Elementary School teachers discussed its success with OGAP.

The Ongoing Assessment Project (OGAP) is a math assessment system based on research into how students learn specific concepts and common errors or misconceptions that interfere with learning.

The assessment includes additive reasoning, multiplicative reasoning, fractions and proportionality.

Centerville teachers have already observed progress in student work since implementing OGAP.

The next regular board meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Dec. 17, in the auditorium of Lexington One Central Services Building One, located at 100 Tarrar Springs Rd. in Lexington.
