Swansea girls, Northside Christian boys win third straight game

Senior night at Wildcat Gymnasium  on Jan. 27 saw a doubleheader sweep performed by host team Lexington High School. 

It started with the fourth ranked girls rolling past the Lady Eagles 77-28. 

In rebounding from the Jan. 24 home loss to Dutch Fork, Lexington erased a 6-4 deficit in the first two minutes of the game by scoring 37 unanswered points during a 45-7 run to end the first half. 

Seniors Lindsay Garner and Jenna Yanity stood out fittingly with 24 and 23 points, respectively.  Maggie Green and Eliza Mills were also recognized during halftime of the boy’s game. 

Lexington (15-6, 4-1) returns to action Jan. 31 at River Bluff. 

River Bluff 57, White Knoll 32 

Chaelyn Tifre scored 11 points and Hannah Riddle and  Izzy Baker each had 10 points for the Lady Gators. 

The win kept River Bluff ( 13-8, 4-1) tied with Lexington for first place in Region 4-5A with Dutch Fork 1/2 game behind. The two teams meet again Jan. 31 in The Swamp. 

Syndi Anderson scored 12 points and  Alyric Buckner added 11 for the Lady Timberwolves (12-9, 0-5), who play host to Dutch Fork on Jan. 31. 

Gray Collegiate 52, Eau Claire 40

Maliyiah Mason and Jordan Mintz each scored 13 points to lead the second-ranked Lady War Eagles (15-6, 4-2). 

They can clinch second place in Region 4-4A with a win at home Jan. 31 against Columbia.

Swansea 43, Dreher 33

Zamariya Crum scored 13 points, Dazejah Lanham had 11 and Patience Riley finished with 10 for the Lady Tigers.

It was the third straight win for Swansea (13-6, 4-2), who moved into third place in Region 5-3A. They next travel to second-place Orangeburg-Wilkinson on Jan. 31.

Irmo 47, Richland Northeast 28 

A. Livingston scored 17 points, Andrea Collins had 10 points and D. Fletcher both had nine for the Lady Yellow Jackets.

Airport 50, Midland Valley 43 

The Lady Eagles (8-14, 2-4) moved into third game in Region 5-4A with the victory. 

Lower Richland 81, Brookland-Cayce 13  

Orangeburg-Wilkinson 50, Gilbert 24 

Boys Basketball

Lexington 69, Chapin 47

The fourth-ranked Wildcats remained undefeated in both Region 4-5A and against Palmetto State teams.

Cam Scott led Lexington (14-6, 5-0) with 23 points after a slow start and Jaxon Prunty finished with 17. Jake Peterson led the Eagles with 20 points and Lucas Highberger had 13.

Lexington returns to action Jan. 31 in The Swamp versus River Bluff. Chapin (6-14, 1-4) returns to action at home Feb. 3 against Dutch Fork.  

River Bluff 59,  White Knoll 47

Omari Caldwell scored a game-high 21 points, Pac Pitts added 10 points and seven rebounds and Luke Chapman finished with nine points and 10 rebounds. for the Gators in the win.

River Bluff (10-12, 4-10 will now get its third try at first-place Lexington in The Swamp on Jan. 31. The fourth-ranked Wildcats have won both meetings during the Chick-Fil-A Classic and the regular season. 

Richland Northeast 50, Irmo 46 

The return of Brandon Crawford from illness was not enough to prevent the fourth-ranked Yellow Jackets from losing their fourth straight game. 

Crawford led Irmo (17-5, 3-3) with 20 points, seven blocks and six rebounds and Madden Collins added 14 points. 

Up next for the Yellow Jackets is a visit to Ridge View on Jan. 31. 

Gray Collegiate 63, Eau Claire 38

Avantae Parker scored 18 points, Trey Maddox had 13 and Ellis Graham finished with 11 points to lead the top-ranked War Eagles.

Gray Collegiate will return to action Jan. 28 in Milton, Ga. against Sandy Creek at the Longhorn Steakhouse 5-Star Classic at 4:30 p.m.

Northside Christian 51, Palmetto Christian 48

Freshman Luke Bohnsack hit a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left to give the Crusaders a win in their region opener.

Cade McNeil scored 12 points and Ken Burks had 11 to lead Northside Christian. 

Lower Richland 42, Brookland-Cayce 35 

Will Young scored 16 points and Jenkins with 11 points in the loss. 

Midland Valley 52, Airport 27 

Dreher 68, Swansea 45

Orangeburg-Wilkinson 89, Gilbert 34
