A local chapter of a motorcycle riding club is garnering support and looking to raise funds for a Lexington family. A pig roast fundraiser is happening Feb. 1 from 3-6 p.m. The Lexington chapter of Ronin Riding Club is hosting the fundraiser at the VFW Post 8738 to raise funds for a couple injured in a motorcycle accident.
“This is about coming together to show that no one in our community stands alone,” Wayne “Top Gun” Hamlin, founder of Ronin Riding Club, said. “With the strength of Lexington behind them, this family can focus on healing and moving forward.”
Funds raised will help with medical expenses, everyday expenses and whatever else the family may need. The couple has five children to care for and is unable to work at this time.
The organization heard about the couple from fellow motorcyclists and decided they wanted to help out.
“This couple (Chris and Malina) were on their way home from attending a charity event in the local area and a deer jumped out in front of their motorcycle causing the crash,” Jennifer Badr, marketing director with Ronin Riding Club, said. “Chris is a Marine Corps veteran and we strongly support our veterans.”
In addition to the roasted pig and other food at the event, the band, Full Throttle, will be performing. Donations at the door are accepted and the bike group said all raised funds go toward the family.
“Every dollar will go directly to the family to help cover medical expenses, household bills and recovery costs,” according to the press release from Ronin Riding Club.
For those unable to attend the event, donations are being accepted online on Ronin Riding Club’s website. People can visit the website at www.roninridingclub.org/upcoming-events and fill out the donation form.
The motorcycle organization is also in Michigan and Florida and altogether, the club has helped over 1,000 families and organizations through fundraising and events. They welcome new members who share an enthusiasm for motorcycles and helping others.
According to their website, the organization’s mission is to “raise funds for local children, veterans and their families who are facing urgent situations that severely affect their quality of life.”
This could be immediate relief to families in crisis, helping veterans or supporting children in need.
