Lexington County Police Departments Host National Night Out Events

Many police departments in Lexington County are taking part in the annual community-building campaign National Night Out next week.

“Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August,” the national group’s website describes. “Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.”

The intent is to promote “police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.”

Below are details on National Night Out events in the county.

Lexington

The Town of Lexington Police Department hosts its National Night Out event Aug. 2, promising an evening of fun, food, and fellowship at the Icehouse Amphitheater and Pavilion” in a press release.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and continue through 8:30 p.m., providing opportunities “to connect with your local law enforcement, first responders, talk about crime prevention” and gather with friends and family. It is free to attend, though tickets are required in advance and available through Eventbrite. Info is available at facebook.com/lexingtonpd/events.

“This year’s event has more food choices than ever before,” the release states, “with Rootin Tuten BBQ grilling hotdogs from Ole Timey Meat Market, SERVPRO serving drinks, Boil the Bag Peanuts, Salsarita’s, Aspire Bakeries, Flower Foods, Krispy Kreme, RF’s Corner Grill, Bubba’s Biscuits, Tropical Grille, LICK Ice Cream, Flight Deck, Blue Bell Creamery, and Mingos Cookies.”

The Icehouse Amphitheater is located at 107 W Main St.

Irmo

Irmo’s National Night Out is scheduled for Aug. 2.

It will take place at Irmo Community Park (7473 Church St.) and start at 5:30 p.m.

In a Facebook post, the Irmo Police Department promises “free goodies and a chance to meet your local law enforcement.”

Batesburg-Leesville

Batesburg-Leesville’s National Night Out is Aug. 3. It runs from 6 to 8 p.m.

The town website notes that it is “hosting a block party at Leesville College Park. This event includes a cookout, fun activities for children of all ages, visits from local officials and law enforcement, safety fairs, and youth events.”

Pelion

Pelion will mark National Night Out from 6 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 2.

“Come join the officers of the Pelion Police Department for free hotdogs and popcorn at the Shumpert’s IGA as we stand together as a community against crime,” the department posted to Facebook. “Music will be provided by our very own DJ Captain Odell Glenn.”

Swansea

The Swansea Police Department told the Chronicle that it will host its National Night Out on Aug. 4, with free food and backpacks of school supplies for kids.

The event starts at 7 p.m. The department said it will release more info this week. Look out for updates at facebook.com/swanseapd.

Gaston

The Gaston Area Crime Watch will host its National Night out for the first time after two years canceled by COVID-19, The Lexington Ledger reports.

The event is scheduled for Aug. 2. at Gaston Town Hall and Collard Festival grounds and is expected to start at 6 p.m. The Chronicle reached out to the Crime Watch to confirm details for the event but did not receive a reply.

The Ledger reports that there will be food and drink vendors, displays from law enforcement and music from the live band Redeemed, among other festivities, and that more info can be solicited by calling Robert White with the Crime Watch (803-960-6585).

Lexington County Sheriff's Department

The department will host multiple events on Aug. 2 and Aug. 3.

The events on Aug. 2 are at Ivy Link  (6 p.m.), Gaston Town Hall (6 p.m.), The Rapids (6:30 p.m.), Coldstream (7 p.m.), McGregor Downs (7:30 p.m.), Night Harbor (7 p.m. ) and Planters Station (6 p.m.).

The events on Aug. 3 are at Leesville College Park (6 p.m.) and Shull Island (6:30 p.m.).

Cayce

The Cayce Police Department isn’t hosting a National Night Out event, but it is hosting a Back to School Bash on Aug. 6. The event goes from 2 to 5 p.m. at 400 M Ave. and is free to attend.

“Officers will be handing out school supplies, passing out snacks and treats to the children, enjoying the bouncy house and more,” the department posted to Facebook.
