Lexington defeats South Florence 72-53 at The Bash

The Lexington High boys basketball team made the most of its playing opportunity Thursday at The Bash at Columbia International University.

Jumping out to an early lead and maintaining it with a defense which collected 15 steals allowed the Wildcats to defeat South Florence 72-53 on Day 1 of the event.

Lexington (5-1, 1-1) scored the game’s 1st 8 points. The Bruins answered with 6 unanswered points, but did not get any closer the rest of the game. 

Zavier Measmer led the Wildcats with 25 points and a team-high 7 steals. With Cam Scott limited by foul trouble, Noah Adams picked up the offense with 20 points, including 5, 3-pointers in the 2nd half.

Merel Burgess posted a double-double for South Florence with 20 points and 13 rebounds. The Bruins outrebouned the Wildcats 44-39, but committed 25 turnovers and shot 4-16 from 3-point range.

Lexington stretched its lead as many as 21 points late in the contest. It returns to action Dec. 19 at home against Lake Norman Christian School.

The Bash continues Friday with 4-time defending Class 5A champion Dorman, coached by Lexington High alumnus Thomas Ryan, facing AZ Compass Prep at 8:30 pm.

The Cavaliers will be followed by 3-time defending Class 2A champion Gray Collegiate (7-0) in action against Trinity Christian at 10 pm.
