Lexington Police Arrest Man Accused of Texting Death Threats

Posted

The Town of Lexington Police Department arrested a Columbia man Nov. 27 after he allegedly sent death threats via text message, per a release from the department.

An officer met with the alleged victim Friday. She said Curtis Mario Joyeux, 32, indicated via text message he would kill her and members of her family. A warrant was issued for unlawful communication and officers began actively searching for Joyeux. He was arrested during a traffic stop after leaving the victim’s apartment complex on Saturday.

“At 6:50 p.m., the victim called 9-1-1, saying that Curtis Joyeux, along with at least one of his friends, had been at her apartment knocking on the door severa times,” the release stated. “She told the dispatcher that they were in a black Dodge Charger with dark tinted windows and were leaving the apartment complex.”

Officers in the area spotted the car on Sunset Boulevard. After conducting a traffic stop for an improper turn, they found Joyeux in the vehicle and placed him under arrest. Two other Columbia residents — Twavon Keandre Williams, 21, and Ladeera Satona Miller, 22 — were also in the car.

Officers searched the car and found three loaded and unlawfully carried firearms and a small amount of marijuana. All three people in the car were arrested and transported to the Lexington County Detention Center for booking.

“Curtis Joyeux has been charged with Unlawful Communication, Stalking, Unlawful Carry of a Firearm, and Simple Possession of Marijuana,” the release reported. “When seen at Lexington County Bond Court, he was given a bond of $6,500 with a requirement for GPS ankle monitoring and no contact with the victim. He is federally prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his past criminal record and this case will be forwarded to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for follow-up.

“While at the Lexington County Detention Center, Curtis Joyeux continued to try to contact the victim by telephone and a warrant for Harassment has been served to him. He has not been to Bond Court on that charge yet.”

Both Wiliams and Miller were charged with unlawfully carrying a firearm, with Williams getting additional charges for driving under suspension and making an improper turn. Both were given a personal recognizance bond when seen at Lexington County Bond Court.
